The first tune is based on a traditional waltz from the Son IstmeƱo genre of music from Oaxaca, Mexico. The second, is based on an Argentine Polka. I found a collection of recordings made by Anne Gannon, the earliest known private individual to make tape recordings of Irish traditional music. Her father was born in Argentina in 1881 and played accordion. He moved to Ireland as a young man, bringing many Argentine Polkas and Waltzes. The tapes Anne made of her father are the only know recordings of the music played in Argentina in the 1800s by the Irish diaspora. They became part of many Irish sessions as a result.
